I took this pic on the way out of the zoo, Aiden did not want to cooperate!
We usually go to the Mesker zoo in Evansville since it is only an hour away, but we decided to take a drive to the St Louis zoo ( 2 1/2 hours away) to see the elephants. But when we got there, this is what we saw: nothing. But soon they did come out and the littles were amazed. We even got to see 2 young elephants playing, galloping around, chasing each other. Now that was a sight, I loved it! However, my squad seemed to be a bigger attraction for the other guests than the elephants.
Now this was hilarious, and unfortunately I took the pic a couple seconds too early. This is the hippopatumus exhibit. We are viewing them under water as they swim around. They are huge, one will fill the length of that viewing glass. The littles can see one off to the left side but are mostly looking at some little fish near by. Then all of a sudden the hippo swims by, brushing the glass, and about scared the crap out of the littles, esp Ashton. Who, as you can see, has his face pressed up against the glass and looking down (not noticing the hippo until he was right on him). But I sure did get some snuggles out of that one! hehehe
I wish we lived closer to the St Louis Zoo, I'd be there all the time. Heck, I wish we lived closer to ANY zoo for that matter. We live so far from anything exciting, but I guess that is what makes it so special when we do get to visit.
