Potty Training?????

So BG just turned 2 and I'm starting to get serious about potty training her. It is not an easy task to even imagine doing with 4 tiny toddlers too. So I've been procrastinating. But with a little push from Nicole I have been thinking more about it. We have introduced potty training to BG and attempted to get her to use the potty chair. However, she has no interest. So I got to thinking that she might do better if she thought that she was teaching the tiny toddlers to use the potty since she thinks she is their mother hen. I know that other countries potty train sooner so I did a quick research. I was surprised to find methods for potty training infants (by age 1). So I am considering having all my babies try the potty chair, my big toddler and 4 tiny toddlers. I just plan to use the tiny toddlers to train the big toddler, but who knows maybe it will work on all of them???
I do have to say that potty training earlier does make sense in the fact that the babies never get into the habit of using a diaper. Like, we sleep trained early, before they got in the habit of getting up at night. We stopped using a bottle before they got in the habit of having one. It only make sense to stop using a diaper before they get in the habit of going potty in it, but the logistics of it is what has me concerned.
I realize that potty training is a very personal and sensitive subject and I'm opening myself up here for potential lashing. So please go easy on me. But if you do have positive, helpful advice, I'd love to hear from you.
So now as for the right potty chair? There are so many options out there. I've found chairs for as cheap as $10 and as expensive as $100. Wow! And even with the cheapest, it's a big investment to purchase 5 potty chairs. And part of me really thinks that the type of chair does not matter. When my twins were toddlers I bought the BEST (or at least most expensive at the time). I think it was called Tinkle Tunes? Anyway it played music as a reward when it got wet. Awesome, instant reward, what could be better? Right? Well... I remember sitting them on the potty with their book. All full of hope. I walked down the hall for just a minute, when I heard the sweet sound of music! Yay! I ran down the hall yelling out praises, clapping my hands, huge smile on my face, thinking that was the best $100 I'd spent. Only to find my 2 precious (or should I say devilish) 2 year olds standing over the potty chairs with empty cups of water in their hands. Needless to say those potty chairs became no more than a toy and my boys were 3 before fully trained (and were trained using the $5 toilet ring).

Oh I can't wait to read the comments. I would LOVE to train the girls-NOW. They are a hair older than the quads. Please post your methods and some research. I can only find depressing, you're-crazy-for-wanting-to-train-a-baby info.

Mandy,
http://www.pottytrainingconcepts.com and follow links for potty training; they discuss 5 different methods and one is infant potty training. Good luck and keep me posted of your progress too!

At our 2 year well baby visit our dr told me to get them potty trained. I laughed but he was serious. I'm still struggling to get up the courage to do it. I do have one cheap potty chair that they all like to try to potty on but nothing ever happens. I'm interested to read all the comments and your link above. Love this post and good luck!

Kim, I had both the girls potty trained by 2. We started by just sitting them on the potty while filling the bath tub. After they had accomplished this we moved on to sitting there after nap time, then before nap time, and finally just taking them every couple of hours. Madelyn was instantly night trained never had an accident. It took Breanna a little longer. We did not use a potty chair, just the ring on the stool. I did not want one more thing to clean. Miss you all!!

Kim- I want to know the magic of it? LOL!
Maya started at age 2 and lost interest- At age 2 yrs, 11 mo...she was potty trained. She had to "want" to do it.
Jace was 3 (same thing as Maya) but had boy part pee pee issues.
I always tell people in a rush- not to rush because it will most likely happen when the kiddos are ready. However...having 4 at once....My thinking might be different. My old PA at our dr's office said her 19 month old fully potty trained herself in just a few days. I can't wait to see. I think Kylie could do it, but just not ready to fully tackle it. She tells us when she's wet and poopy- even brings me diapers/wipes to change her.
Good luck Mama! :)

Oohh! I'm very excited to follow along. Just today I picked up some big kid underwear for the crew (mine are closer to Anastasia's age-- born 9/08.) I think they are ready, the question is- am I?
My big boy potty trained right at 2 yo pretty easily, but training an only child was not really training for what lies ahead for us.

Oh Beth, you can say that again! I really think more of the issue is this momma being ready and commmitted. I potty trained twins and do not feel prepared for what I'm facing now!

Go with the cheap Potty chairs. Its all just a gimmick for the more expensive ones.

I totally agree with Heather Seiler 's method... just make it part of routine to sit on it...
I would have gone crasy training them after 3 years old!
I was myself fully trained in 3 days when 21 month and one of my sons at 17 month; with no pressur from us... just routine times on the potty...
But the biggest problem actually is that the diapers are too comfortable!
Get back to some big terry towls!! I'm sure that was the reason my kids were trained early!

Kimmy,
Starting at 18 months I just sat Sophia on the normal potty. NO potty chair for us. She did great. It was something fun and new. I never pushed it just offered it and when I went, she went. She like playing and reading on it. We made it fun not something she HAD to do. Then at Christmas (2.3 yrs)...she handed me her diaper and said "I don't want to wear these anymore". Done. That was it. Dry all the time even at night (until now...to busy to go to toilet so has accidents). Oh ,well. I would just put them on the big toilet and dont mess with the little ones. They won't fall in:)!!

Although I think it is a good idea to potty train using the regular toilet, I think it would be easier on all of us if there is more than one toilet available for all babies to use. I did end up training my big boys on the big toilet and it was stressful when they both had to use it at the same time. So I'm thinking it would be best for each baby to have their very own potty.
